Hi. It depends on how you manage it properly.
Yes you can earn good with forum.
But managing it was the hardest part cause as your forum grew.
    Your expenses expanded.
But normally i saw some auto forum that earn good with it by adding some adsense on it.
If you have good traffic, then earning with it was not a problem.
Make sure to apply SEO on it.

I guess it will depend on what you want that forum to be about.

Forums are sometimes a hard thing at first because they start slow. Once they reach a good amount of activity though, content generates itself on its own, thanks to the members.

As the person above me said, it will have to do with how you manage it as well. But all in all, yes, forums are successful if well managed.

make a forum is not a easy thing , it may take sometime to earn for long term . but for early time there will be no profit or earn for it.

Forum alone is not enough at this time,, you need a good web( CMS) and a new idea.
As u know, ppl now stick more with social Network like FB and twitter... no one wanna go bk to forum.
So... don't do it w/o web.

For the forum , you must need post. You have to hire some members for posting. This is 2013 , the competition is tough but not impossible.

I have earned from my forums and compared to many other forums, they are relatively young.

So, even now I would say it's possible for a forum to be a success (depending on what you view as successful of course).

If you have to ask then the answer is no. At this point in the game the market is flooded with crappy attempts at forums from admins with no experience in being webmasters. I suggest you start much smaller with trying to get a social networking page popular. Try getting a Youtube, Twitter, or even an FB account popular. Start small and learn all you can.
