It looks like Google, Yahoo and other search engines are looking to integrate a service that will automaticcaly correct missepelled domains that are similar but recognisable. For exmaple, if you spell microsft.com (without the 'o'), it will automaticclay be converted to microsoft.com., This will spell disaster for typosquatters.
I think so. Also, I think people no longer just type in a domain to find something. They now all go to the likes of yahoo or google to find what they want.
Those site don't get traffic from SE, they get traffic when people type it wrong in the url box They do. You don't think so because you have been using computer for so long. There are so many people that are not good at computer (and will never be) and they do type in what they want. However, people start recognizing those landing page because they all looks the same
This does will not affect typo squatters unless browsers find a way to implement this correcting thing. --Joe
i get about 15% of my sites traffic from typo's, i use them in the meta tags as keywords, sexual health site so i have keywords = "virgina, vergina, girl, gurl, penis, pinis," and so on, depending on what page it is.
As Joe pointed out, it would make no difference unless there was software built into the browser that did this.
<offtopic> Is that Corbin Bleu from High School Musical on the Microsoft homepage?!? </offtopic> That's pretty neat, I think it is a good thing actually.
What about the unlucky people who might own the "microsft.com" website? Would they just redirect the URL anyway? Surely there must be some genuine websites that are typo's of other more well-known websites?
Exactly. I am saying browsers like IE and FF will implement code that automatically correct the misspelled domain. I mistakenly said it was the search engines in my original post. I meant browsers.
