Are Supplementals Really Duplicates? I have an original page in the Supps

I have found a page on one site that has in excess of 500 words unique content (no copies show on copyscape AND it was written recently by a friend)

This page has its own unique title and description meta

Yet, it is listed as supplemental.

Until seeing this I had assumed that supplementals were pages viewed by Google as duplication.

I will even post the URL here for anyone to check it out. Can anyone explain or offer their opinion as to why a unique content based paged could be placed into the supplemental results? I would really like to read what others have to say on this.

Moore's Flat Ghost (This page is PR3 by the way)

This is only one of several pages I know of that fit the same description - Unique, original content.

If I recall correctly, Matt Cutts claims that being in the supplemental index is a result of insufficient linking.

Would you think that a PR3 page could be penalized for insufficient linking?

Where does the PR3 come from? Does the page have links from any external pages?

Well that may be the reason for it being supplemental.

I have an investing forum. All content on it is unique. Initially only 10-20 of its pages were non-supplemental. I did a lot of link building for it, but it didn't make much of a difference.

However, once I shifted my focus on building deeplinks for it, many of its pages have moved out of the supplemental index. SERPs have improved dramatically too.

I guess PageRank isn't enough to get a page out of supplemental index. One needs the page to appear "trusted" and the only way to achieve this, is to get external sites pointing to it.

    i m agree with sachin,
u can get pr if u have placed your link on home page of your site which have good pr.
but it is necessary that u must have some link from higher pr pages of other sites. this will help u to move out from supplemental result.

The main domain and the major sections and pages are not in the supplementals. In fact the pages are listed on pages 1 through 3 for many of my target keywords.

Visitors will be directed to pages such as the one I listed above through the home page links. Im not really too concerned with the supplementals, I just thought it was odd.

As I am often adding new pages every day or so it wouldnt be practical to build inlinks for every single page.

    Agreed.

I didn't build link to each and every thread of my forum. I just distributed my links between my homepage, sub-forums and sub-sub-forums.

I really worked well for me.

Supplementals are not something that you want for your site. If your site, in fact, does not have pages listed as supplemental then you should count yourself fortunate

oh yeah! I know that, but what I'm up to is the fact that supplementals on my site are gone. so there's must be something with Google, maybe an update or so...

The page is probably in the supplemental results because it is new or the site is new. You can't expect to rank on the first page just because you have unique content.

I never said anything about expecting it to appear on the first page (Why would you say that?).

No, neither the site nor the page are new. They both have PR3

There are many more factors in ranking a page than just unique content. By reading your first post I get the impression that you assume your site should rank well because it has unique content.

Supplemental pages are not just pages Google views as duplicate content.

Hi may be you have added your that page two times in your website, so it can come in the supplemental results. so once again check your website because some time this also happened. because search engine consider two pages of your domain name and index page some there is better to use only domain name instead of the index.asp or home.html its search engine.

Nope, I have not added it to the site twice :D

I always use just the domain name for the home page i.e.

Thanks a lot everyone for all the ideas and suggestions. I really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to post their thoughts. Rep has been given to all of you.
