Nothing good has been heard of spam comments.
    Delete them forever.

In the long run, the spam comments does no good neither to the spammers nor your blogs.
They just take advantage of your blog with the bad links.
Anyway, just delect it, if it comes back again, then keep spamming it, that does help!

You have to do manually because in spam option it blocks the ip not the contents. :)

Yes, I also can't understand why anyone will have to pay for spam comments just to get links (???)

Apart from the author deleting and spamming your comments,

I have seen a Video about Google Caffeine Update where they say, Google is neglecting or giving negative to the back links from Forums and Blogs. If this is true, it is going to be a unexplainable bewilder around the web.

So whats going to happen is truly confusing.

Overall spam comments will not help you with SEO, because they will likely be deleted or no followed so they are no real use to you, they generally just annoy webmasters and go against their guidelines, I learned this the hard way.

Nothing good comes from spam. Your comment may even be deleted. Make a relevant post on the subject and you should be fine.

Google is likely already doing this to some extent. I doubt if they would ever allow backlinks from forums/blogs to negatively affect your rankings. However, it would NOT surprise me if they were devaluing/discounting links from certain forums/blogs ESPECIALLY if those forums/blogs are known to NOT be moderated and are dofollow.

Forum sig links and dofollow blog commenting are two of the most abused link building techniques by spammers. For forums and blogs that are known to be abused by spammers, I have no problem with them devaluing their outbound links. Seems like a good way to improve the quality of their search results and decrease the value of the work done by spammers. These types of links even when they are on relevant sites are likely already considered low quality, "cheap" links that carry no real authority, trust, weight...

Google wants to be able to rely on links to be natural (given by other webmasters because they view your site as beneficial to their readers in some way or they view your site as an authority). They don't want the SERPs manipulated by webmasters generating links unnaturally to their own sites through methods as simply as forum sigs and blog comment spamming.

Article submission, IMO, is the ONLY unnatural link building technique that they might see as semi-natural since you actually have to create a substantial amount of content to place on the submission site in order to "plant" a backlink. But even with article submission sites, I'm sure some of the them are actually flagged as being the target of spammers who are spinning cheesy, brief articles and therefore have their outbound links devalued much like certain forums and blogs. However, more credible submission sites like EzineArticles.com who have strict submission guidelines and professional reviewers of articles to weed out spam will likely continue to be a decent source of unnatural links.
