I recently changed the main ad space on one of my websites to an image only medium sized box. Only one ad ever shows up on it, and it's only been worth 5 cents a click. Is it normal for some image only ad sizes to be worth less, or is it just my niche? The text links on that site have been worth more than 50 cents a click. Thanks.
I normally display all textlink ads because you can display more than one and generally they are worth more, in my opinion.
Well with text links you get variety, personally like image ads only banners as gives more apeal to my site.. the click value will totally depend on what sort of ads your site content is attracting.. i have got as low as .002 cents a click on some of my image ads
Here's a tip: when you choose to have the ad unit display both text and image ads, what tends to show up more? Text ads usually. And why? All the ads (both text and image) compete for placement according to their cumulative CTR and also how much they have bid for that keyword. Now the fact that text ads show up more often would logically mean that they are performing and earning better than image ads. And that is why more often than not, image ads pay out lower.
