Are search results different according to your location?

If same keywords were typed in yahoo's search box from different places(i.e USA, India), are the search results same?

 

I know that in google, your geo-target location will definitely change the results. Even within the USA I know there are sometimes drastic result change differences. For instance, sometimes if I am on the phone doing some SEO research with others, the Google results will sometimes vary a few hundred thousand for competitive terms. Serp positions are also sometimes different.

So I would imagine they will be.

 

This is quite nice since the search results are more relevant to the end user.

For example, my and other portuguese websites get the first #5 positions instead of the english, french and german ones.

 

How do I make my site more likely to show to certain region(i.e USA)?

 

Host it there and mention the region on-page.

Not sure whether IBLs from that region are factored in yet but it wouldn't hurt to get them.

 

If you can get links from regional directories ie .co.uk based in the uk, then it helps. Also MSN has MASSIVELY different SERPS regionally.eg. I have a client who is UK based, on UK for baby gifts we get about (million pages returned, on the .com we get 36 million, bit of a difference there.
