Are Sales Pages A Thing Of The Past?

The more I look into ways to promote my affiliate products and sales pages, the more I learn that links to them are not allowed just about everywhere on the internet.

Article marketing directories won't allow you to link directly to a sales page. Blogger won't allow links from posts to sales pages and even Google won't approve most Adwords ads that link directly to a sales or affiliate page.

There are two things I want to learn about and discuss in this thread:

    1. Why is the internet so biased against sales pages? What is wrong with sending consumers to sales pages and selling things to them so you can make money online? Isn't that called Capitalism? If I opened a brick and mortar store, consumers could drive directly to my store. They wouldn't have to drive to a remote location and be directed to my store from there, so why can't I send customers right to my sales pages?

    2. What are some of the ways that you can use article marketing to get people to your sales pages? They claim you don't need a website to promote Clickbank products using article marketing, yet you can't link directly to the affiliate page, so how do you do it?

I looked through some article directories tonight out of curiosity, and while a great many articles do link right to affiliate pages (which is against the TOS in 99% of them), most link to an email capture page offering a free download, and then re-direct if you sign up. Others link to blogs with a review of the product that links to the sales page (you can't do this in Blogger, apparently). I guess those are good ideas, but what about the whole "you don't need a website" thing?

So, I guess I'd like to know what some of the more experienced marketers are doing in terms of article marketing. Ideas, anyone?

Not because you can't post direct link to your salespage means you are going to fail...Salespage is still the best medum in promoting products.... There's a lot of ways to promote a sales page... just not available in this particular forum...

Would you elaborate? How would you use article marketing instead of linking to sales pages?

They can still be very effective, although I think it's really important to have extra features on them now such as videos, proof, extra designs & colors etc.

I believe GoArticles will allow a link to an affiliate sales page.

Simple. Buy a domain then redirect to the sales page.
Better yet, buy a domain, set up a page to presell/capture email address, and then redirect.

both work great, but I prefer the second one:))

You can still link directly to the sales page if you buy a domain and forward it to the sales page. That is how you get around it at EZA and tons of other places.

Whatever way you look at it though, you are usually going to see the greatest results by sending the person to your pre-sell page first straight from the article and THEN directing them to the sales page. Most people aren't going to read the article and then be ready to whip out their credit card.

As far as using Blogger and them not allowing links to sales pages, you shouldn't really be concerned with this because basing your entire pre-sell page off of Blogger and other free Web 2.0 sites is completely stupid.

I still don't understand why people are so cheap that they can't spend $10 (or usually less than that) and buy their own domain name and host the site themselves. If you can't invest $10 into your business, you should find another hobby. How many times have you seen certain people's Web 2.0 sites get taken down by the moderators and then their entire business is just gone?

Also, look at the benefits to having your own domain:

    1. If you own your own domain you can write almost anything you want.
    2. It has actual value and you can sell it down the road if you want.
    3. You can customize it any way you want to.
    4. There's no risk of getting it shut down by someone else.

There's a lot more but you get the idea...

You can buy a domain and redirect it, but that is "so yesterday.'
If you want to know what people are doing these days and making a killing, its creating squeeze pages. If you dont know what that is, it is basically a page (landing page) you create that has very little info, but enough to attract the visitor. Then you get them to click to your aff page. That is the basic, but even smarter (and what most good marketers do) is have their own opt in form on that squeeze page, that way the user signs up, they have the user on their OWN lists as well, and then they are redirected to the sales page.

Most people do not buy the first time they see a product anyway. This way you can try to sell to them over and over since you have them in an autoresponder.

    ^^^ I agree 100%

Just buy your own domains. Also, you can get the domain with a related word to your product. There are more positive things on getting a domain than negative.

Thanks for all of the great replies. I've been marketing for a while now, and I have my own domains, WP blog, etc. The reason I started this thread was that I was thinking about my very first days in affiliate marketing.

I remember seeing all of these articles saying that you didn't need a website to make moey as an affiliate marketer. I'm just wondering if you all think that still holds true. Can you make money from Bum Marketing, and if so, how much?

YOu can make money from bum marketing, but again, just have to buy a new domain, or have a landing page. Bum marketing still works. but yes, internet marketing changes all the time. Man, If I knew what I know now in likw 1992, Id be a multi millionaire.
