Anybody own a recipie site? How is working for you? Is the competition intense? and Are you making any $$$ from your site? Skinny
I run an .NET based Recipe site and it seems to be doing quite well with Adsense, getting at least 50cents a day with no promotions. I think it is viral
A general recipe site would have a lot of competition, but you could do a niche site like diabetic recipes, vegan recipes, chili recipes, etc... By focusing on a particular niche you might get higher rankings in the SEs and generate more revenues.
one of my friends from ewealth just released www.chocofactory.com and its converting very well for him. I think the niche has a lot of potential and theres not HUGE competition, + lots of cheap targetted keywords for PPC
recipes are good.. many people are now cookign from home with the high gas prices.. they dont have any money togo out and eat.. so they stay home and cook.. its also good for the family.. need to have a nice recipe site.. i love toeat
Met a guy last year who was running 10 or more and claimed to be doing very well. I also think niche sites are the way to go.
How about a recipe blog...might be a nice format. The blog structure is very good for SEO and if you post good enough recipes, you could go viral a bit in the blogging community.
The thing about receipy sites is that there is SO much competition from large sites like AllReceipes. Even if you focus on a neiche, dont bet on getting much search engine traffic.
The best way to run something like a recipe site is to get really personally involved with it, and create a lot of unique content with your own personal variations on recipes, and then solicit recipe submissions from your readers. Readers for sites like these love community atmospheres, and tend to participate pretty willingly if you show a genuine interest. If you're just thinking about throwing a random recipe database up on the site, you won't have the same kind of success b/c they'll find the same thing pretty much everywhere. Jenn
