Are product model no's protected under copyright laws ?

For example, if I wanted to build a website based on an LG TV known as "32PG6000" am I safe to have the "32PG6000" in my domain name ?

Of course, having "LG" would be illegal but I'm unsure about the legalities of focusing just on the model no. and excluding the manufacturer's name from the domain name.

PS The website would be UK based.

I don't see how that is illegal. A product number is like a catalog number.. the risk would only be in how you use it, but I would be scared to register it myself.

All the popular companies copyright or trademark their brands, logos, names, products, model nos etc. but I don't think there should be a issue with what you want to do.

All you need to take care is be careful with the contents. It should not forecast a bad image on company's reputation, its products or services or its brand names. As long as you play safe, everything should be fine.

But at the end, it completely depends on the company and how proactive and sensitive they are about their brands and products. Many companies do not even bother to look into it while some sue people for small reasons.
