Can releasing a press release about your site help boast sales/site PR ? Once you have a press release, where do you publish it - how does a press release help a business ? Can anyone tell me more, please ?

It can be extremely good for your site, but probably not if your goal is to boost sales and pagerank. That's not what press releases are for. Can those things occur? Absolutely. But they're side perks when you put out a release in the right way (real news angle, well-written release, and the correct distribution plan for your audience and news story).

You'll probably have loads of webmasters tell you to submit it to tons of free distribution sites, that they'll build lots of quick links, etc. What they generally won't tell you (because they don't know any better in many cases) is that most of those links you'll get quickly are of very poor quality (they won't be on high PR pages for long when they're archived, they're on PR and scraper sites that aren't relevant to your niche, etc.). What many also don't realize is that submitting to more than a few distribution sites has little value - the ROI doesn't increase much past the first few (and you're ALWAYS better off going with manual, targeted distribution - submitting it to specific outlets, using a distribution site as a supplement rather than your primary plan).

I ran a PR firm for years, specializing in online PR, so I've tried and testing just about every online PR distribution plan out there. What most webmasters do does NOT work nearly as well as doing it "right." If you want to find out more about actually writing a decent release for Web-based distribution if you don't plan to outsource that, I have a free e-book on the subject available through ProBusinessWriter.com.

Very instructive. We have been getting paid $40 per press release from a certain client. The painful part is that we have to make about 25 submissions as well which appeared to us to be a duplication of efforts as we felt that the releases in many cases would go to the same outlet. We keep doing it as the client is king.

The better thing to do is to consult with the client on better options actually, but that only works if you have actual PR credentials. When I did distribution (now I only write them) I ran a full-service PR firm, so coming up with the right outlets and plans was generally a part of what I was hired to do.
