are PR1 and PR2 links worth getting links on?

    Hi Everyone!

I'm doing some link building and someone told me that getting one-way links placed on PR1 an PR2 sites is sort of worthless in the sense that it would not help in getting a higher PR for your own site. And saying that only one-way links on PR3+ are worth getting placed on. Is that true?

Any incoming link has some worth whether for traffic or PR. PR 1 and 2 aren't worthless, just worth less than PR 3+. A link itself does not have PR, the page it's on has the PR. If a PR4 page has 100 outgoing links and a PR 2 page has 3 outgoing links, a link from the PR2 page is worth more. These numbers aren't accurate of course but hopefully you get my drift.

I see.. so the more outgoing links a website has, the lesser the value of its links?

also a pr 1 or pr2 today may be a pr 3 or 4 next week or next month. It is easier to get links from a pr1 or 2 in my experience than a 3 or 4, 5.... so I don't find any link worthless, only higher pr links are more valuable than lower pr links. So they are worth less, not worthless.

If it's a relevant link in your niche, then it's low PR doesn't automatically make your link irrelevant. Today's PR2 site could be PR 5 in a year and you've got yourself a great PR link with minimal effort. In the long term they all add up.

Yes it will affect your PR - but not in a negative way. A link can only add to your PR, not take PR away. As the other posters say, a link from a page that has low PR today may become a link from a page that has high PR in the future.

Always remember that a link may bring you traffic regardless of its PR benefit.

Exactly. If you are working for a link, bear this in mind when weighing the link's value. Some people think that a link from a site with a high PR is very valuable - but it isn't if the actual page on the site on which the link is placed is itself of low PR or the page has a high PR but many outgoing links.

Good points here. A summary + some possibly added points:

    1. PR isn't everything.

    2. On-target matters greatly.

    3. Outbound link count matters.

    4. WHAT is being linked to matters. For instance, if someone has a model airplane site that's linking to pharma and gambling, stay away.

    5. Content matters. Is it all just scraped BS or does the site have an whiff of quality to it?

    6. Link placement. Can you get your link with some text with it? Is it just stuffed in the footer?

All of those things factor into a links value and just looking at PR would be very amateurish.

Any PR site is worth getting linked on, as long as its not a site where it can possibly violate some ToS and get banned or bad reviews, everything else is a go.

As mentioned above, PR belongs to the page, not to the website. That's why I chuckle at all the offerings of links on people's "PR4 site ... PR5 directory", etc. Then you go to check it out and find (as expected) that the home page is indeed PR4 or 5, but the inner pages from which you will get your link are PR0.

This is an important distinction. Ignore the "PR X site" solicitations and check on the PR of the linking page. Hint: it will often be zero, but those who are offering links don't want you to think about that.

Thanks for the info! I didn't pay much attention to this, until now. I always thought that the PR of the home page was most important.

    Best regards,

The way I see it, PR1 and 2 sites are probably new, and trying to get new traffic, so you'll get more unique visitors from them. I have no problem with PR 1 & 2 links, because everybody has to start somewhere.

I am always in favor of getting PR1 and PR2 links. But as I wrote above, the inner page from which you are getting your link will usually be PR0, not the same PR as the home page.

Getting low PR links are great, since it looks much more organic than grabbing a handful of PR 5s. Work your way up...

i achieve 90% of my rankings for any project using just pr0 and pr1 100% relevant links, pr is the reason why we get those "why doesnt my website rank well in google" questions here in DP, just get relevant links and stop chasing pr.

    good luck.

The best link that you can get is a relevant do follow anchor text link that include the keyword phrase that your page is optimized for... Now that a good link no matter what the PR is.
