Paid surveys do pay and if you are really interested and if you are in the right demographic, you can earn 100 to 200 $ per month, and more if you can get referrals (surveysavvy, globaltestmarket, mysurvey, brand institute and a few others have good referral programs) However, don't expect to get rich form surveys, just do them as a hobby, earning some xtra income in the process. You can earn more money by promoting surveys as many affiliate networks have lead campaigns for recruitment to survey panels. Also, paying for a survey database is not worth it, as most of the listed companies are useless and the real good ones, you can easily get from the free sites.
Wow! There's nothing like bringing up an old thread! I have made quite a bit from paid surveys. I have even won $125 in a sweepstakes drawing from a survey company! You have to be careful with survey companies. Never ever signup for something that you have to pay for. None of those are worth it. You will not make $600 a month like some of them claim. Don't expect to make more than $100/ month unless you are incredibly lucky and have a lot of time. And you will have more options available if you are from the US. Surveys are incredibly boring. But if you want the cash you can make it. Some of the best paying sites are Pinecone (but it's hard get on their panel), Global Test Market, and Lightspeed Panel.

Paid survey sites are legitimate but it's important to aknowledge that there are scam sites as well. I've made an incredible amount since I started with these sites and while you won't get rich, there's a pretty nice potential for extra spending cash and profit with the top paid survey and get paid to sites online. I've promoted survery sites on clickbank that were supposed to pay people for taking surveys. I've done fairly well with those sites and have never gotten a refund. Don't know if this means those sites were entirely legit or not.

I have been taking surveys online for almost a year now and I have made thousands of dollars so far and counting. The key is to sign up for as many of the good ones as you can.
