Are old leaders better than young leaders?

Do you think a country is better off with an older experienced leader than a young leader? Providing the older leader still has some "zap" left in them. For example an older leader can focus on their countries priorities instead of having to keep his wife and kids happy holidaying somewhere warm.......I think an older leader can focus better while they are in office.
We all know a young wife and children are alot more demanding of a persons time than when they get older. Your thoughts? Not to say everyone does not deserve a holiday. Running a country is a very important job.

This is too generic a question, it depends on too many factors. I guess the OP needs to narrow down the question before you are able to get any sensible answers. Maybe a specific example of which old leader versus which young leader will be easier.

Ok do you think an older leader would apply more of their time to running the country than entertaining their young children? Kids grow up and go off to live their own lives.

i think old leader's are less apt to make an ass of themselves by doing something prideful.

When the experience of the senior people combines with the enthusiasm and exuberance of the youngster, it will do a lot of goodness in not only running a small business but also governing a very big nation. Additive and synergistic effect is better than an individual one :)

These days trend is that multinational companies are hiring young professionals on top posts like CFO CEO etc. Main reason being young people are better qualified and they are motivated to do something new and up for change.

Thanks for your replies. Good to hear other peoples thoughts. I've found that there is no replacement for experience. I've learned that much the hard way. When I was really young people gave me advice but did I listen? No. I had to go find out for myself that the experienced people were right.

I thought I knew it all. As for running a country I think older leaders are more apt to make better decisions. Sure its great to have a young fresh new face but these people are making very big decisions that affect millions of people. We're not talking about being the boyscout or girlguides leader here.

I think you never stop learning until you get planted or your brain can not function right any more. Not enough time in a lifetime to take all the information available in. Just my opinion of course.

being a good leader depends on leadership and experience, usually old people are better leaders, because they have more experience, but there are exceptions

Every old people is not equipped with good wisdom and so also not all young are inexperienced.
There is nothing good or bad about young and old in general... it is finding the gems out of both the classes and making them leaders to work in group simultaneously...that would give the maximum benefit! :)

I prefer younger leaders for the following reasons:

    1. more energy
    2. more promise
    3. newer ideas
    4. need to bring about change

older leaders do have experience, however, they are not likely to bring about change as much as newer leaders are...
