Are OLD Domains really good?

Okay! I've a thought going on my mind - are old domains really good for rankings?

All I get when I search on Google is that they're good but the articles are old. So, I was just wondering if any of you has used them and had any success?

I know quite a few people who're good at SEO and used 'fresh' domains for their new big projects................if old domains are good then why they neglected them.

I highly doubt it - unless they've been indexed for as long as they've been around.

 

May I ask what makes you feel so?
And how about if they've GoDaddy Parking Page.

 

Google uses many metrics to determine search engine rankings.
I would be surprised if "age of domain" and "years in Google index" were not ranking factors but I suspect they are minor contributors compared to "number and quality of backlinks", "good content" and "keywords".

 

I have never had a sandboxed site that I've created on an old domain.
Old domains typically keep a lot of backlinks if previously developed, also they tend to keep some history, so if you can develop something in the same are it will help a lot.

Recently I've develop an auto-update site on a 2000 domain and I get nice traffic without even raising my hand.

 

I'm not sure if that is a factor. If the only content it's had for 10 years is a parked page, I don't think Google is going to hold it in high regard. It can probably get indexed immediately when a site is connected to it, though.

 

Google Loves older domains ... do some searches and you will find old sites that have not been updated in years in high positions.

And I thought Google kicked out parked pages from their index.

Doesn't matter, old is old. Throw a site up on an old domain and Google will love it (unless they have changed their algorithm to spot things like this).

Somehow, I also feel the same.

Active ones are definitely good ones. I'm mainly refering to old domans on domain parking pages.

I think it does....That's why I asked if anyone had any success with them.

I think the optimal solution would be to have an old domain with at minimum an old, existing index.html page as well as some others. Ideally, you'd like to have some semblance of an old "site" even if its just a shell without much content.

I often buy domains (which I intend to work on later) and put up a shell website, and get indexed by SE's to mark time in the sandbox until I am ready to start work on them.

 

Old is good though

 

once at my workplace the external seo consultant who worked at bigMouthMedia (one of the best seo firms) adviced to register the domain for few more years (eg: instead of renewing it every year register for 5 years straight away) and said it will help in rankings.
so keeping with that theory old domains are good

 

I am agree that OLD domain is good for Serp ranking. I have read the article, but sorry I forgot where I got it.

 

If it's an old domain that was parked for a long time, I don't think age makes such a good positive difference

 

I heard that google likes old domains and that even of they have been let sit for years then they will index faster.

 

I really don't think it makes much difference to SEO, or if it does, its over-stated. Certainly other factors are more important.

It will add value to your domain though.

 

I saw a domain 2 years old which looks like it was parked. but a .biz.
Not sure what that would be worth anything so haven't reg it.
