Are non relevant backlinks worthwhile?

    Hi all,

I understand through reading posts on these forums that relevant backlinks are definately one of the best ways to rank well on Google however I was just wondering if there is any point to having non relevant backlinks aswell?

I have a website which has limited relevant link possibilities and so I am wondering how much this will affect me in the future?

    Many thanks in advance.

I see sites ranking high in the SERP with mostly irrelevant backlinks every day. A link is a link :)
That being said I wouldn't refuse a backlink from quality site even if it's not related to my niche.

On one hand, sure - a link is a link. But really, honestly - if the backlink doesn't help your reader then what's the use? If it's relevant, in most cases it will. Non-relevant links rarely bring traffic, and search engines (especially Google, ahem... Mayday) is doing a very good job of discounting non-relevant links in signatures, blog comment spam, footer links, profile spam, etc.

Any inbound link will pass PageRank, assuming it's a DoFollow link. Therefore, any link will help.

The question is if it's worth your time to pursue non-relevant links.

look any kind of links would help you though you can "disguise" your irrelevant backlinks - create a 1 -2 pages website with alot of conent that is relevant to your website but not a duplicate of what you have on your website, link the 1-2 pages website to your website with some anchor text and then just blast the 1-2 pages website with links, these links will pass there "power" to yours in a relevant way.

Google will look at your overall links...if 100% of your links are relevant and you have no irrelevant links, do you think that would look natural? most huge websites have a lot of irrelevant links. Look a at amazon.com...is every single site linking to it book or ecommerce related? maybe this is not such a good example...but look at zappos.com, is every single site linking to it shoe related...well you get my point. If you are a huge site or have thousands of links, you do not need relevant links to rank high, but if you are a small site it helps to have more relevant links. One thing you want to be careful about is to look natural and include some irrelevant links in your efforts.

I wouldn't spend too much time on them but they definitely don't hurt.

Relevancy i the key factor on which the search algorithm works, if you do not have much relevent resources for link building then collect the links via article, directory, forum etc.. this will help to you.

I too wont recommed adding links that are not relevant. If the links are not related why will anyone follow and how can be the result good. So keep less links but keep of the same theme.
