Hey there! I was commenting on a few blogs, and I quickly realized that almost all the blogs I had posted my comments to were using the nofollow attribute. I know you don't get any link juice to your website if the blog is using nofollow. Even though everybody say stuff like that, I recently read that getting nofollow links is good for your website. I also read that nofollow links can make you rise in the SERP. Is that true, or am I just being confused? The thing is that some nofollow links show up in Google Webmaster Tools.
nofollow is default for blogs, so most blogs you comment on will be nofollow. the nofollow tag is specific to google, so it will still help you in other search engines.
I comment on blogs because I like the content, not because I want a free link. There are better ways to get links, and you'll get much better links. If a blog has removed the nofollow attribute, you'll most likely have 20-30 comments on a page. 20-30 external links will do you no good.
If a link is shown in Google Webmaster Tools it doesn't mean it's a link that carries weight. Even if Google will not give SEO value to a nofollow link you may still get direct traffic from the link and some other search engines may still give you some link juice from it.
You pointed a good thing, I also read one article claiming that Google also considers links with NoDoFollow attribute. Well Google uses many factors to rank any site, back link is one of those factors. Well Yahoo gives value to links with NoDoFollow attribute so you may get good ranking in Yahoo.
NoFollow links are for sure somehow counted by Google. But commenting with only purpose of getting an extra nofollow link pointing to your site is a waste of time. Comment if you like an article. For other purposes use the specialized methods which are much more efficient.
Google does seem to give a small amount of credit for nofollow links. And you should ALWAYS have nofollow links amongst your backlinks, at about 10%, to keep your link profile looking natural. ^F^
Yep I agree mate. If OBL is less than 20 then NoFollow link will definitely help you in SERP but again it should be there in niche related page.
Foxly is right, I've had a site slammed for just using high PR packets such as "Angela's backlinks", it's not natural linking at all and as soon as the site hit the 100+ visits a day mark it got put into the sandbox
I try to get plenty of WikiPedia links that happen to be nofollow, but the referral traffic is amazing. I just wonder if you get any kind of juice from the authority of the domain. The nofollow thing could all be a Google front to help minimise spam for all we know.
I know that they're not really considered to help you, but when I first created my website, I received a couple of nofollow backlinks and I was indexed faster then expected.
Nofollow links will not pass you any PR, but they are counted as backlinks at most of the times. 6-7 out of 10 nofollow links I get can be indexed by Google.
They're great! DoFollow or NoFollow, both are backlinks to your site and will provide traffic and rankings with keywords. PR isn't that important, and the more popular your site is the more backlinks your gain and PR you'll gain, don't worry too much about DoFollow and NoFollow.
Commenting on nofollow blogs is great. You both get the traffic and the backlink. I almost only comment on nofollow blogs and my websites have risen from PR 0 - 3. PR 1 - 2. PR 0 - 2. PR 0 - 2. PR 1 - 2. PR 1 - 2. PR 0 - 1. Pr 0 - 1. The only negative result I had was that one of my blogs went from PR 3 - 2. Pretty cool.
Well as I understood it the no follow tag tells bots not to go to the link yet they always do anyway which to me seems that google is interested in the no follow links. I have heard of experiments where only no follow links to a site helped it climb the serps. These days I assume that no follows are usefull in serps but are devalued compared to the same link that does not have the no follow tag (to reduce the impact of spam sites).
