Are MySQL databases that big a deal to host?

    Hi there,

I've got a current hosting plan that offers me 10 subdomains but only 4 MySQL databases. As I'm primarily a blogger, this means I can really run only 4 web sites (1 database per wordpress blog, right?).

Anyway, are databases such a big deal to host that my hosting company only offers 4? I'd like to have 7-8 but don't necessarily want to pay $30 a month for that.

Are there other hosts who have better deals than that? Is there something I don't know about databases that make them trickier to host?

(As you can tell from my language, I don't know much about database stuff). Thanks.

There are plenty of affordable hosts that will let you have unlimited databases. They are no problem to host. I would just find a more obliging host...

Database resource can be very resource intensive. You can create unlimited tables on one database, so that's mean you can create different prefix for different application.

Most applications now allow you to specify a prefix on installation meaning you can actually have as many apps as you want inside just one database as mentioned, I'd stick with the host that's being realistic enough to limit your resources in the first place, and rest assured everyone else thats using the server your on is subject to those same limits.

Wrong. You can have many blogs on one DB, and this is the best method. Backups are easy with one or two rather than 50, etc.

In your config file, there is a prefix setting WP_, simply change that, then point the rest to your one DB during install.

krakjoe is right on with the advice!
