Are Movies Getting More Sick

Do you think movies are getting more sick and twisted these days than in the past?

I certainly think they are going to get a lot worse over the next few years (there's a link between darker themes and recessions/depressions). Movies like the Human Centipede are just the start.

The Human Centipede was disgusting. I was so close to turning it off several times. I thought it was crap.

Wow, thanks for your contribution :p

As for the movies, hollywood has often ventured nto dark themes. Did you watch the 2009 movie Antichrist? Urgghh...quite gross

If we are going by things like The Human Centipede, Piranha and Saw then I would have to say yes. It could just be a popular phase though and we will be back to chick flicks in no time lol

I think it's out of necessity, people get more desensitized the envelope needs to be pushed. Screenwriters are finally starting to realize less is more and setting a dark atmosphere can affect people more than blood and gore alone, There Will Be Blood is a perfect example. I don't necessarily believe it's a bad thing either, movies, music, books and all art forms have a history of artistically pushing the envelope and sometimes for the greater good, doesn't mean times are getting worse. We can watch westerns now and not have to experience first hand what getting shot during a game of poker is like.
