So recently i was thinking about directories and how much of a waste of time they are. My belive this is because think about this. You submit to a directory alright then you put a link on your page and then they list you. But this is the way i look at it. The directory only lists you and doesnt give you a backlink. And i have never got major traffic from a directory. The only directories i like are the ones that have rankings based on traffic. So if your like me and get good visitors then your going to be fine. Only Directories i could sugest are Dmoz and Yahoo along with a few smaller ones like blog rankings. Tell me what you think.

exactly ... usually we won't get any direct benefits from directories which hardly have traffics

When it comes to traffic, directories show less impact. But for back links and page rank, they show some impact.

Why are you doing reciprocals with directories? It's easier to use the directories that offer free listings without you linking back to them.

Regarding submitting to them, well i look at it like this, shall i go and watch tv for a couple of hours or have a pointless conversation with someone on the phone or shall i instead spend a couple of hours submitting to directories that i will see some future benefit from.

I have a question regarding directories: on most of directories they ask for a reciprocal link and they give me an HTML code, what should I do? post that html code on my web page and in the reciprocal url section to enter the page where I have posted this html? I hope you can give me some help with this and I am pretty new in this domain and I would need some help.
    TY :)

I think directories helps more on technical side, such as link building. Actually it seldom drives traffics to your website.

There are some niche directories that give traffic too. Some of them have a following and others are ranked in the SERPs so they pass on some of their search engine hits. Either way, if a directory gives you traffic then it is probably giving you some serious link juice too. So even though there are a lot of crap directories out there, there are also a lot of good ones. If you can separate the two you'll save a lot of time...and money.

Why in the world are you wasting your time submitting to a directory that only lists your site without a link and requires a reciprocal link too?

Don't assume that all directories function that way; in fact, most do not.
