Are meta tags still important to SEO?

everything is important, but meta tags are not so important as link-structure, but it's always better to have good meta tags too

Title = HUGE...probably most important...description is important for conversions....keywords are totally useless.

Don't lose your time in the meta

if it possible for you install tag cloud to your website on top left side

 

According to case study of latest sense of Google updates, IT SEEMS there is less probability of Meta Tags consideration... Any way, Meta Tags are often fine-grain control for a website...
Just concentrate on other aspects...

On the other side of it, i won't say that meta tags are not important for SEO.. It plays but not high as they were earlier...

In all meta tags, title tag is still much more important and meta description has also little bit importance as sometimes SERP shows description from this tag instead text from content so it would be better to use it wisely. Well, now-a-days meta keywords tag is mostly useless.
