    okay. can someone give me exactly what i should add to all my pages? i don't want to have to re-edit them once i add the meta tags to all my pages.

    all i have planned to put in is: description, keywords, and this thing: <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />

    what does charset=iso-8859-1" mean?

    Hey mate,

    it was already given above:

    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-type" CONTENT="text/html">
    <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT=" ">
    <META NAME="description" CONTENT=" ">

    In the description, sell your page because it is what people will see when they find your site via the Serps.

    It's good to be listed on the first page of Google, but if nobody click, what's the point?

    Just add your main keyword, and maybe some others, and that's it.

    Be sure to write a super catchy description!

    Good luck at putting meta tags into 300 pages, especially if you want to change them slightly for each one, you could be there for months (possible slight exaggeration)

    Some search engines still value meta tags. This will also help the site to differentiate the page from each page.

    would it be a bad thing if your <title> was the same as your meta keywords? take a look at what i am going to put for my meta tags.

    <title>MySpace Graphics, MySpace Icons, MySpace Pictures, MySpace Images, and MySpace Comments</title>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-type" CONTENT="text/html">
    <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="MySpace Graphics, MySpace Icons, MySpace Pictures, MySpace Comments, MySpace Images ">
    <META NAME="description" CONTENT="The BEST MySpace Graphics and MySpace Icons resource on the internet! 50,000+ graphics, images, icons, and more for your profile and comments!">

    and then for each category (I will use the Mickey Mouse category as an example) i will put:

    <title>Mickey Mouse MySpace Graphics - MySpace Graphics, MySpace Icons, MySpace Pictures, MySpace Images, and MySpace Comments</title>
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-type" CONTENT="text/html">
    <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="Mickey Mouse MySpace Graphics,Mickey Mouse MySpace Icons,Mickey Mouse MySpace Pictures,Mickey Mouse MySpace Comments,Mickey Mouse MySpace Images ">
    <META NAME="description" CONTENT="The BEST Mickey Mouse MySpace Graphics and Mickey Mouse MySpace Icons resource on the internet! 50,000+ graphics, images, icons, and more for your profile and comments!">

    what do you think?

    Though the omission will not have any profound effect on your ranking, it helps the SEs to display your site in results. Again, searchers are likely to click on well-written, relevant titles in serps.

    Lets look at these two meta tags

    title - Welcome to www.marketyoursite.com
    title - Get a comprehensive, low cost search engine optimization that drives massive traffic to your website in miniutes.

    Search engines will like the second because it contains the keyword and searchers will likely click to visit your site.

    Meta tags are definately important. It is basically anchor text on your website, and telling Google how to look at your site and what it is. Imagine google as a friend who knows nothing about your website. Looking at your meta tags may familiarize him with what your website is about, and if he likes it (in this case Google) then he will probably tell others (in this case getting indexed from Google).

    And also above is not a good amount of code, I suggest you use all of this (as an example):

    <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="example, exampling, examples">
    <META NAME="description" CONTENT="This is an example of full meta tag usage">
    <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Language" CONTENT="EN">
    <META NAME="author" CONTENT="Mr. Example">
    <META NAME="revisit-after" CONTENT="1 days">
    <META NAME="copyright" CONTENT="Copyright Example Inc. All rights reserved">
    <META NAME="robots" CONTENT="FOLLOW,INDEX">

    And where it says "revisit-after" I usually put one, but it is best to decide on these factors:

    1. How frequently you update content
    2. How frequently you want robots to visit your website

    I hope this in depth post helps :D .

    IMHO meta tags are not that important these days. What is more important is the Meta Description.
