I have recently been asked thi Question: Are meta keywords are really worth including? It is our recommendation that it is not necessary, because the vast majority of search engines, Google included, don’t use them. Instead they prefer to spider the actual pages. Some researchers actually consider meta keywords to be actually be detrimental to a site. Most authorities on the subject agree that they are now redundant for Search Optimisation. In particular, this is a good and informative article from a very credible source: http://searchenginewatch.com/showPage.html?page=2165061 But here are a couple more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta_element#Academic_studies http://www.searchengineguide.com/richard-ball/meta-keywords-a.php We have included meta descriptions and also used considered page titles, but we’re struggling to see why we’d want to include meta keywords in 2008. Your thoughts would me most appreciated.. Thanks in advance, T
major SE no longer support meta tag keyword however most minor SE and many directories need/process keywords and minor SE/minor directories still are useful for relevant backlink building specially the OLD SE/directories hence yes i recommend keywords and i still use keywords on all my files. important no keyword stuffing - but REAL keywords that appear in actual text.
I would recommend using them still, but as most have said, major search engines such as Google are going to check the density of words actually used on the pages of your site to determine the keywords.
If you go into Google webmaster tools they seem very important for G. Not in terms of SEO but for setting the context of the page, and the niche of the internal and external links from it. I don't care how good the article is, I am not abandoning them!
Although SEs no longer give too much importance to meta tags, they are still useful tags on your pages. it allows you to influence the description and keywords of your page in the crawlers that support this tag. Although it is questionable that keyword use in this tag has any influence, whatsoever, in affecting the rankings, it is more important for stimulating user interest and for getting people to click
meta keywords are very important as the major keywords for your site, please use the very good keywords
I'll keep using them anyway, in case something changes in the future and they come back into play again.
I prefer to use meta keywords and it is allow you to provide additional text. The meta description tag allows you to influence the description of your page in the crawlers that support the tags
I believe you still have to put that on your site. It wouldn't hurt you big if you got one right? So why not bother to put them still? Well in fact, it is still part of the on-page optimization process...
