No, these directories, and articles may one day get PR, and you should build your link backs naturally anyway, get some PR 0, PR1, PR2, and just start building like that it'll work better in the long run.

Though submitting to directories is about useless to begin with, so if you're taking time to do that i'd stop and find some other ways to get the back links.

Yeah Im all done with the directories, i submitted and got links to around 30 of them.. now its a pain in finding them

I figure, just write articles & get backlinks from that.... post on a few blogs here and there.... & try to get on some authority sites, etc.

I agree, every backlink helps. Even if it's from a PR0.
Back in the olden days when I didn't know about SEO and PR, I was just happy to get a link from any website. Don't look too much at the PR of any website, I think I would prefer a link from a website with relevant information then a website/directory with a high PR that has not got relevant information.

Even PR0 backlinks are worth as they help spiders to search your site and also adds authority..

Link is link as long as they have been indexed, not all of them are equal. They can help boost your site ranking in some low competitive keywords, some long tail ones. In high competitive arena, you need to mix up both quality links and non-quality links.

even if it is PR0, it still helps (well, it must be related to your site). just don't link to those link farms.

Nope! Not at all. I have seen some sites that get huge traffic but still have pr 0. So I wouldnt call it worthless. Its maybe just because it is new but still successful.

You can only hope that some day it becomes PR1+ otherwise if the link isn't sideway it's worthless.

Every link is worth something, but the question should be, is it worth your time to do it.

    We have on one hand,

In theory, a pr 0 site is new, and being promoted, so that it will have PR, and gain more over time.

We have on the other hand,

It seems that Big G has discounted the value of most directories & with the mass creation of directories for the purpose of selling links & the many thousands of directories created just for the link submission service industries, it is to the point, that it is questionable if it is worth your time spent submitting to new directories.

I use to be like you and worry about the PR value, now I couldn't care less.
I look for quality sites that are related, and have since noticed a huge change in my serps for linking this way.

    Of course they are...

Google recently said their algorythm has over 200 factors in it... MANY OF THEM OFF PAGE.

Where do you think the confirmation of your on site SEO comes from? Links in using PRECISELY the words that refer to your site! A few links for say "New York Airport" will have your site rating higher for that term (maybe from 1000 to 900 but higher all the same) as google then associates it with your site. Thats why they show you the words found in links to your site;)

Finally, directories got hit with a PR drop. SERPS did not change. In fact mine have steadily got better and a PR0 directory now receives between 1000 and 3000 daily visitors depending on the day... A couple of those visiting a Real estate / high paying business site via a directory can be worth a lot of money... Depends what your conversion rate and how targeted the traffic is... Hence why a directory with 40 broad categories doesn´t bring much direct traffic but a focussed one such as DMOZ does.

Finally, ANY link in is good... just don´t link back or to crap sites!
