Hi When promoting a new site is it of benefit to have links coming in from different pages all with varying PR on the same site? To clarify, I have a PR 5 site with many pages all having different PR and would like to link to my brand new site from it, shall I just add one link on one of the pages or is it better to add links to my new site from all of the pages of my PR5 site? Which is of more benefit to the new site?? Thanks.
I would add the link to as many pages as possible (possibly in the footer perhaps) this way your new site will receive an equal share of page rank for every page, as opposed to just a single pages PR.
I would recommend against linking from every page in the site. The search engines are going to see a ton of new links show up at once and it could raise a red flag. I would place one link from the home page to the new site and maybe one more from one of the sub pages. You should focus on getting links from different sources.
I'd like to add my 2 cents worth here.. just been doing exactly what you are talking about. My PR5 index page was linked to my new sites page, and a max of 3 other links from 3 other pages (PR4s). That site was launched on 1st Feb, it has a page rank of 4 now.. but interestingly only the pages I linked to my first site.. I didn't realize that I didn't link to it's index page and as a result the home page has no PR. The experiment continues... -T.
