yes it is very useful but you should submit your site in high page rank directories.

 

Yes directory submission are good for back links, traffic and more visitors. Before posting to a Directory Submission, We should check the directory page ranks and back links. Then only it will be good for our site to get crawled in that directory site.
Main thing is to give the proper title, good description and best keywords. This are the things we should note before submitting our site to any directory..........

I dont think so, most of the free web directories died. Few are still alive , but it tough to find them.
