Are Free Web Directories Still Good for SEO

I am wondering if Are Free Web Directories Still Good for SEO. I still submit my websites to new directories but I don't know for sure if they do any good.

I keep submitting to these directories as a routine.

any advice is appreciated.

Look for directories where you can make anchor in url to your website, also where not too much links and not in 5th level from home page. Check how many backlinks have directory where you want to submit you website. Its just general. Any link with anchor give you more or less power and help to make higher position in our friend - google

 

they sure is the easiest way to get one way backlinks.

 

They can't hurt (at least most of the time) but you better use more time to get links from content sites then from free directories.

 

All that matters is the Google respects the site enough to index and crawl the page your link is on so you get the benefit of the link. That and it helps if the link is not buried with a zillion others and is not nofollowed.

 

The directories are still good as long as the links are subject for approval so that spam links will not be listed.

 

Not all directories are useful, only a few of them really helps SEO (DMOZ, Yahoo etc), but most of them looks like spammy link farms. They don't work at all. You can test it.

 

ya, directories with high page rank are worth in today also...

 

Forget about them just concentrate on providing good content.

 

if your competitor have it and you are not.. its not going to ranked any better right! no harm to have it anyway

There ok but I wouldn't put too much into free directories. I would pick and choose only the good ones.

 

I dont know about the Goodwill of SUbmitting to free Directories but there is no harm in submitting. SO, Always submit

 

I wouldn't spend a ton of time doing it... but it can provide a little help.

Don't waste your time if you see a directory has a lot of pending links. Choose high rated directories that are on top of adding their URLs.

 

yes i do think that directories can certain;ly help us to get backlinks.Greeting thorough SEO stream though i have got handful backlinks from directories but still they are helpful.

 

Link directories is my first step in SEO and I just submit to about 50 high PR directories, after that I use another link building methods.

 

They can still be useful for building back links.

 

Quality doesn't related to paid or free. If you found a directory with Good pagerank, Alexa rank and with not too much submitted urls on it, then it worth that you add your website to it whether its free or paid.Every backlinks from a quality website is good and can help your ranking on search engines.
