Lately I have seen more and more forums slowly dying or allready dead. Heck even the offical Xbox forum www.xbox.com has seen a huge decrease in traffic. Are forums becomming a thing of the past? Any of you guys still have a active forum?

I think forums are as popular as ever. There are a few that are dying, but it will be a while before they are obsolete

Forum owners will have to adapt their sites in order to keep up with technology but I can't see them dying. The very concept of competition means some sites will thrive while others will die off.
Up and coming sites like twitter will always skim off some traffic, but even these sites can have a life expectantcy if they don't adapt themselves.

I think forums popularities really depend on their member and the niche.

No, forums will always be around.

Yes, my main forum is very active. And I am working on building up 2 more.

Forums will never become obsolete. Mainly because they appeal to a certain type of internet user.

Some people like blogs - reading and commenting on them.
Some people like social networking sites.
Some people like picture sites - photobucket as an example
And then there are the people that like forums.

To me - all other types of sites are boring. Very few sites (even social networking) offer the interactivity that forums do. It is people like me that keep visiting forums and will keep them alive.

One of the problem with forums - is the markets are flooded. To get a forum to succeed, you have to really promote it.

Only some forums are going to die because of the other new modern and improved forums on the same theme, as webmaster-talk is going day by day less as compare to coolest dp...
I have also one health forum but it is very new and need to work hard here yet... so i hope it will run so fast

Well.. Forums are kinda harder to manage as of competitions, however imo, I think forums are cool.. Not all may think the same way, as forums are where people get together share out their experiences and all, and at least all members are competing in some ways of post counts and all. So basically forums still rocks!

Forums will never die but they may adapt, there's always need for information and the need to ask for advice or questions.

Established forums that are taken care of will live on. But you really never know what will happen 12 months from now.

I think forums are still a very strong part of the internet. As others have said forums provide more interaction with others then anything else the internet has to offer.

Some forums just never take off while others are thriving. Just the way life and the internet works.

I like ~kev~ they always seem to know what they are talking about ;)

I like to blog, have had a LiveJournal account for years... but stopped using it because I added a blog feature to my Forums. I also added a chatroom. Vbulletin has also added several social networking options to it's forum... I can only assume they are trying to bring all the best from both worlds into one.

But forums will never die... look at Newsgroups. They once said that forums would replace those, and while many of the older newsgroups sites have died out, Yahoogroups & googlegroups are still going strong!

The only difference now is that there is more competition for what people like.

For me it al depends on what kind of forum you got. I've seen loadsa forums die but always them select few that will always strive. Plus you have to make a forum that no-one has done yet or with features that no-one else has otherwise it will just be another forum ;)

But in hindsight forums pwn always will pwn.

I don't think so, even social networking services like Facebook can't replace a forum, a forum has something special ..................
