I recently read an article on seomoz saying that we should completely abstain from forum link and comment links, no matter how much we try we will end up looking like spams. I had recently been working on niche related forums, should i remove those links. What is left to do in link building now. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/link-building-101-the-almost-complete-link-guide-updated-for-post-penguin Code (markup): According to the author I even tried to ask the author of the article about it but he was too busy. What do you guys have to say on
No you shouldn't remove the links if they don't look like spam. Also, blog commenting was never about link building for SEO purposes.
I don't see it being an issue if you are truly not spamming. I've seen some arguments in certain forums/blogs, but there are 2 sides of to it. What happens if the link is a relevant resource to the discussion? There's no black and white answer and I wouldn't say it's just useless. It has its uses if done right.
thanks for the replies guys we need to be more care with the blog commenting process as usually you might not spam but other users will come up and start selling ugg boots damn i hate those guys
Well if you are leaving comments on reputable blogs the blogger is unlikely to allow these kinds of spam posts through.
reputable blogs do not allow do follow links now a days buddy that is a big problem commenting is officially dead
Like I said in this thread, blog commenting was never about link building. Only spammers think blog comments are good for SEO. Your mindset seems completely flawed. It seems you would prefer a blog comment on any crappy blog just because of the dofollow link, when in reality you would benefit alot more from a well thought out comment on a respected/authority blog.
If ever you commented to a blog or a forum, you must consider yourself to be helpful and of course you should be able to relate post and articles to were you are interested in.
You should use blog commenting to network with fellow bloggers, not SEO. You will be 10 years behind everyone else -Alexg
A link is a link a link of course... Music from the old TV series Mr Ed. How good is the link. Sometimes it depends on where is is from such as PR and relevant. If it is a site that Google doesn't like it may be destructive to your marketing. Also depends on the pattern. All of a sudden you have thousands of back links. Looks like spam. 10 or so links every day for months and months. Must be a person. Like the song Santa is coming to town. Google is watching you. Are you naughty or nice?
My opinion is that , if we build quality links from good PR sites then it will work. We have to stop doing black hat, grey hat as well as unethical things to make backlinks. Try to do genuine work and use step by step strategy without being a spammer.
I think what the author is trying to say is do not comment on blogs or post in forums to create backlinks to your site, but rather, participate in blogs and forums to increase your and your site's online presence. Most of us get carried away with building links to our sites that the comments we leave on blogs and forums no longer make sense. This is counter-productive. Keep the links to your site on your forum signatures, not on your actual comments. Make sure to provide helpful responses that give value and not just put in random thoughts with a link back to your site. Hope that helps. Have a good day!
Read the article you want to comment on and then comment. If your comment is relevant to the article and it is written well there should be no problem.
