Say that you come out with a killer entertainment site and did it well...

would you make money off of it? what kind of money are sites like nothingtoxic.com and entensity.net bringing in?

    Guess you're right. :p

Of course we would try to make money off of it. Why wouldn't we?

To see how much a site roughly makes is quite easy. Find out their rates, and then count up all their ads.

Nothingtoxic.com is a pretty big site, so they probably charge X amount of dollars per month for most if not all of their ads. Just count up all their ads and multiply it by their rates.

    Do the math.

Too hard to guess... but I stay away from those type of sites. There's much easier money to be made with smaller niche sites.

I think they make a pretty fair amount of money.
It just takes time for the sites to build up a loyal base of visitors.
After the traffic starts rolling in, advertisements can be sold for a pretty good price.
Look at Entensity, he's had some of the same advertisers for years.

In short, it's worth it long term.

I agree. There's too many people trying to land the next MySpace... when it's REALLY EASY to make a decent living (not necessarily MILLIONS) off of doing proper Niche Research and figuring out a small, yet HUNGRY crowd to market to.

    People are just too lazy.

    Thanks for the replies.

I heard that as far as adshare companies goes, they don't have high paying keywords in the entertainment sector. Has this been proven?

Entertainment websites have one of the highest clickthrough rates. And you do very well with the ebay affiliate program too.

Adsense doesn't pay as well per click - but its not too bad either because the clickthrough rates are high.

If you got traffic to it you would make money. NothingToxic makes tons of money. I remember the owner of that site selling off some of his smaller sites on SitePoint a while back... I think the small sites were doing $50k a year.

entertainment sites for the most part don't make crap...don't even think about using context ads on them, the pay off is always pennies per click. Of course, everything changes if you're getting 10,000 hits per day.
