    Hey guys

Just a quick one. I do not have the skills to make my own shop, and I dont have the cash to comission one. So I am left with one of the eshop builder packages for my site. My question is, are these packages SE friendly or would it be worth me waiting untill I could pay for one to be built?
Cheers for any help you can offer

    Packages?

I'm assuming you're NOT talking about OSCommerce, PHPShop, ZenCart ...

Most of those packages are not even close to SE friendly. You could use Wordpress.org as a free CMS to do an e-shop. I've used it to build a good CMS.

If you don't want to use Wordpress or something like www.drupal.org , then I'd wait till you can afford to have one built or to purchase one.

I started my career by using a shopping cart style package. In my opinion they are not particularily user friendly and they are not even close to being good for SEO.

Build your own site and add a shopping cart like Roman Cart if you are just starting out.

    Cheers guys,
It was my worry that they would be a SE nightmare, sorta glad you have confirmed this.
    Thanks again

As pointed out most webshop systems are not SEO friendly at all. Mostly because they are buildt for the general consumer, with table based layouts. Why this is the case is hard to say, but most likely its to keep the workflow faster. Systems were initially buildt a long time ago, and noone seems to want to "rebuild" the system.

Some webshop packages do have SEO-modules, atleast we have made this. I do not know about the open source systems out there are handling the SEO part, but I would guess some of theese aswell have SEO-modules/ versions of their system. But out of the box, I havn't seen one as of today.

    Mvh,
