I'm considering buying a few domain names which I will run BANS sites from for a while with a view to sell the domains in the future. So are domain names with hyphen in (i.e something-blah.com) worth less than sites without any hyphens? Thanks In Advanced.
Welcome to the forums! They are absolutely worth less than sites without hyphens. There is a benefit of having a site with a hyphen - it's easier to rank higher in search engine results. Best of luck with your site!
The short answer would be YES. There are several reasons why hyphenated domain names are worth less. For one, people generally do not think of typing in a hyphen when typing in the domain name. So as far as type in traffic...or return visitors who would arrive by typing in the domain name, you have automatically not only lost those, but have actually given them to the non-hyphenated version for free. .
Thanks people basically confirmed what I was thinking but its alway good to get some advice from people who have been there before. Thanks again.
I don't like visiting sites that have hyphens in them because it is not of my normal typing routine. I am sure other people are the same way. Also, the domain name is easier to remember if it doesn't have the hyphen in it. There are very few popular websites that have hyphens in the name.
