or can u actually profit off of sites like flixya.com or just putting adsense on your sub domains such as cjb.net, geocities, ect....
It's always better to have your own domain but there are still money in free hosting, no doubts about it.
If you want to be taken seriously then getting a proper domain name is a must. You can only go so far with freebie sites/blogs.
what about the free domain names like .tk and other ones...? im trying to do this blog without putting any money but devoting all my time into it
Domain names are important, even a $1.99 .info site is much much better than a subdomain. You could always get free hosting your your site so you won't spend as much.
one more thing...because of the popular trends now...what if u had a myspace with a dot tk domain forwarding to it... and can u add adsense to ur personal myspace?
To earn money from adsense domain is not important, have good contents, promote it and have relevant traffic
If you want to build a site that will generate adsense revenues worth having, you will be putting in a lot of your time over a number of years. Because of that huge personal investment, I'd sure think twice about free domains and/or hosting. There are some super cheap deals out there and you will own your URL. You will decide how many (if any) pop-ups, pop-unders, and other types of ads your visitors will have to tolerate. With free domains, someone else decides (and they can change their terms at any time ... read the terms you agree to when you sign up). If their servers become overwhelmed, they may or may not add equipment to handle the load. If you own your own domain, you can move to another host if necessary. If some hacker takes over your site, the free host may or may not assist you in getting back control. With a paid domain registrar/host, you're their customer so they're more likely to help. The free host may also start charging you some day. Better read those agreement terms closely to see if they guarantee that they'll never do so. If so, you won't be able to barter with them over the price. They'll own your URL! Why should they make deals? You'll either pay up or lose all that work. Even if you manage to keep the content of the site, you'll definitely have to start over with backlinks, page rank, etc. If you later want to add a directory or a forum that requires a php script, good luck with a freebee! If you want to get your site listed in directories, good luck with a freebee URL. If you want to be taken seriously by other webmasters ... well, you get the picture. Domains and hosting are so cheap nowadays, I can't imagine why anyone would use freebees. Maybe if you're trying to throw a minimal effort website online and you don't spend any time promoting it. Of course, it's likely to not earn very well under those conditions either. I just renewed a couple of my sites at Godaddy. $44.00 each per year for domain registration and web hosting. I can't imagine sacrificing my control over those sites to save so little. I'm sure that there are even cheaper deals out there so cancel that next date to the movies and take your date on a picnic. Use the money you saved to buy a URL and one year's web hosting.
Yes, you can make money by taking part in revenue sharing sites, such as Flixya (make sure you're active and help other members by commenting/"hitting" their photos/videos/blogs). See my sig for a list of revenue sharing sites. You can spread yourself across several sites that share revenue. However, you will definitely make more from your own domains that have good content, etc.
i would just want to know whats the big deal in buying domains. Its just around $8 and I dont think people cant spare even that too. If you get a private domain then it will surely give a good impression and its really worth.
