I have eventually being listed in DMOZ and I assumed that DMOZ and the Alexa directory were the same, is this true?. If not how does one get listed on Alexa?. I get a Alexa spider every day but I cannot see my site listed.
Alexa's directory utilizes DMOZ dump but orders the listings by popularity according to Alexa. If Alexa updates their directory, you should eventually see your site there as well.
Thanks for the reply, I will keep an eye on the Alexa directory listings and see when I my site appears. Please advise in the forum to talk about Alexa and sites linking ?.
Alexa is a search engine which monitors traffic of each website whereas DMOZ is an open source directory... Both are important in an internet business...
Alexa is a website-rank system based users Dmoz is open-directory based volunteer editors. The only thing in common is that Alexa use the Dmoz DB (Just different order)
Creed is correct. Alexa utilizes the Dmoz database, but it is not a live connection, it's updated periodically via RDF dump. You can verify that by viewing the attribution at the bottom of the Alexa Directory pages. Alexa is owned by Amazon, and Dmoz was initially a standalone but was purchased by Netscape which was in turn purchased by AOL. AOL staff pays for the Dmoz servers and supplies some staff functions, but the database is maintained by the volunteers. If a site is entered into Dmoz it will enter the Alexa database when it next is renewed. Here's a screenshot of the attribution (see green rectangle).
Thanks for this info, I wasn't aware Just a question out of curiosity if thats the case then Alexa still shows the traffic for NON-DMOZ Listed as well
