Well i would say that all the little directories do not really give you any kinda of improvement in google at least. i spent the last 2 months submitting to directories and as a result of this latest BL update google only shows 2 of them (I submitted to 70+ directories) so it seems that google dosnt count these small directories as BL.
A few things to consider: 1. You might have submitted to 70+ directories, but you might not have been added to all of them. 2. Google can take 4 weeks or more to do a full crawl on sites with a low PR. If some of the directories you submitted to are low in PR, your link might not have been crawled by Google in time for the last update. 3. The "link:" command in Google doesn't return correct results. Use "link:" command on http://www.alltheweb.com or http://search.msn.com if you want better results.
I show very few links also, but my site went up to a PR5. Even weirder, a lot fewer pages are being shown to link to my website now than before.
Google doesn't show all links that it finds as well as your real site PR. Check msn to find out who has linked to your site.
Sometimes after submitting a site, I keep a list of pending approvals. When my site is approved, I take the url of the directory page that contains my entry, and submit it to the search engines. G and Y. This way if the page is deep in the site, I can give a head start to the spider crawling to the page I care about. Now the intentions is to get BL's faster, is this a waste of my time what I am doing? Thanks, tom
Same here. I think Google is either screw up for that last couple months, or changed the way count back links. I'm thinking the later one. I checked on Yahoo and it showed about 20x more backlinks than Google.
All SEs have a different way of showing BLs. Google shows a random sample. Alltheweb imo shows the best sample and I use this most of the time. Yahoo shows a good sample of the links it caches, but is sometimes slower than the others. Also, you need to use "linkdomain:" instead of "link:" MSN seems to show a lot of links (most number of links in my case). I believe that this is because it sometimes counts multiple links from the same domain as separate links. But, at the moment it seems to be the quickest to cache and display BLs.
Yeh pretty much. Why go to the trouble? It would be a good idea to check if the category page your link will be located on is cached, if its not, then just move on...
I joined a new directory about a month ago. They had PR0 at the time. The backlinks showed up quickly and the site now has PR4. The guys who owns it works it every day so its getting spidered almost daily, I'm really glad I found that site. http://www.mostpopularsites.com PS: I am in no way affiliated with this site. I just found it to be a worthwhile link.
Google is pretty weird about BLs. This last update mine went from 84 to 79, even though I had busted my ass the last month getting more links. MSN and Yahoo links are WAY up for the site though. Unforatunatly, MSN and Yahoo link command seems to give back a lot of erroneous data. I think they're looking for the word rather than the actual link. This gives very inaccurate results. Right now MSN has me at 694 and Yahoo has me at 9,870. Niether of those are accurate, but I suspect the MSN number is pretty close. What I really want to see is where this will go since the PR update and my coop weight has gone up by nearly and order of magnitude.
PR5 from PR3 I'd say if anyone needs proof directory submissions (and free ones at that) work, then I'm the living and breathing proof.
