Are directory submissions worth it? How much should it cost? Recommendations?

Is it worth it to purchase directory submissions? Does this actually help your site out? How much should I expect to pay (if it is worth it)? Does anybody have any recommendations on tools or services?

I found one site that was really cheap ($12 for 800+ submissions)
    http://www.prosaris.com/
But they seem to be really really cheap and the domain has only been around for 9 months..
    What do you think?

It would be good to get your site listed in the Yahoo directory and DMOZ. Yahoo will cost you and dmoz will take a long time.

Google seems to be cracking down on directories as they are cracking down on paid links which is basically what a paid listing is although many disagree.

stop wasting your time in directories. Maybe DMOZ and Yahoo are the only directories that you need to work on.
