No, don't waste your time. Google specifically has said that directories are mostly not worth it. Even the venerable DMOZ is no more.
I know of several very profitable directories, but they have evolved into very sophisticated directories with ratings, background information, and other seemingly important facts that are manipulated. One most of us are familiar with is Yelp, but there are many others. There is no room for the little guy, though.
I remember the good old days when web directories were buzzing, It was fun, Times change but i still think it was unfair for directories to be hit as hard as they we're with updates, Many search engines have evolved now with their own advertising platforms for revenue, The directory industry was big business and now that business is a shell of it's former self.
