Not worth it for linking and gaining PR. Google has been on to that for a while and does not give much credit to those links. Some quality directories maybe but very few out there are good enough quality. If you going to submit some make sure the directory is quality and has content on eacha and ever page not just pages of links.
Directories won't give you any visitors though it is useful for one-way link exchange with some extra backlinks for your website. that too takes time..
now a days, most of the directories are giving these options: 1. Free link= You are free to submit a link to your site and the directory will most probably accept it, but it will be a no follow link. 2. Do follow= You have make a reciprocal link (your site+directory) and submit it then if the directory approve you submission you will get a do follow link 3. Paid= pay for your oil! they will approve your link, will feature it properly-most probably you will get good seo juice from it. So, think first what you will do and why you will do. Because if u r trying for seo-nofollow links can't help you. On the other hand, some people says Google doesn't like too much reciprocal links. And if you have money-then u can spend for a featured link in a high pr directory.
Their utility is very little. Almost no links and zero value for PR increase. Much better article submitting and blog commenting if you want backlinks.
I have read a lot about the importance of directories. Web spiders see directories as a way to know what your site is all about. Web crawler's function is to determine what's your niche and it helps them to zero in on the category you placed it. So be very careful on that. Paid and reciprocal directories are ok but I prefer the free ones, it may take some time but if you do it right, you will see a backlink.
Submitting articles to article directories can improve the ranking and visibility of online businesses and this is essential to surviving on the internet.
Nofollow links won't give you anything (from directories or not). If search engine sees too many links coming out of the page (like it happens in directories) it may discard all of them. So I wouldn't invest much time in link directories (except large ones like DMOZ).
In My experience Directories gives you a backlink,But it is worth if you get it from a good and well maintained directory
Much worth mate .The more Quality back links you have the more your rank goes up in search engines .But some directories are just like spams .No one edit them etc .you are keep on backing them with reciprocal and they not approving your listing .Result their pr goes up and you are getting nothing from them.
There are better ways to get lots of quality links from as opposed to directories, for example forum profile backlinks. Be careful where you buy these links though, some providers also only use spammed-to-death lists that are of no good.
If you site is new, yes they worth. But not the ones that have some owner and same host .. you 'll damage your site reputation little by little this way. For an good old site don't bother with directory inclusion.
