Only the best directories are worth it. Unfortunately, these are almost all paid, not free. Here's a list of criteria you want to look at when evaluating directories (or any pages to place links on, for that matter): 1. Is the page indexed? Not indexed = deal breaker. 2. Does the page have a fresh cache date in Google? Fresh (less than ~2 weeks old) = good. 3. What's the Pagerank of the page? The higher, the better. 4. How many links are on the page? The less, the better. 5. Will your link be a plain link? Nofollow, Javascript, redirect = deal breaker. 6. Can you chose your own anchor text? Yes = better. No = also ok. 7. Can you get some targeted traffic from the page? Yes = good. No = only worth for SEO, if all of the above criteria are met.
Directories still work BUT not just any directory. The directories I have had good results from are mainly the old well established directories. If you add your site to mainly free or poor quality directory, you will not get any useful benefits.
so basically we have to buy directory links from good directory website ? because free directories is useless ?
It seems to me that getting submitted into free (low PR) directories can still help - at the end of the day you get a follow link which helps google find you and build your backlink count
Not all free directories are useless but about 98% of them are. They are also very poorly maintained and lack any cutomer services whatsoever so sometimes you spend several minutes just to be told there is no guarantee that you listing will be approved. Also, where does the owner of free directories get the moment to buy vital links that will keep the directory strong?
They still work. What do you mean by "better" ? How do you measure the goodness ? And what you want to compare them to ?
I was wondering about this. I know unrelated directories don't have good link quality. But isn't any backlink better then no backlink!?
don't listen to this person, they obviously have no clue what they're talking about! All links are good, and links in context are great eg.. article directories. Guess the person I quoted thinks blog post are bad as well..lmao
Hello friend, directory submission is still working.submit your site to quality and high PR web directories and get more back links to your site.some web directories like yahoo,DMOZ and google are best.
mate, I think web directory is a better way of link building, But this is not better more than other link building method like article, blog submission, web 2.0 etc.
