Are Directories really effective in Ranking positions

Well structured and SE friendly directories have many pages indexed in Google and other search engines. That's one of the main ways how directories can bring you traffic. Secondly niche directories with quality listings are also searched by users.

Personally I don't believe international general directories are searched or even browsed by the users. But if they are human edited and only except quality links, they are also probably respected by Google and other search engine bots therefore increasing your position in SE's

 

I have hardly seen any traffic coming from directories, though addind your site to DMOZ does give it a good boost

Directory submission really drives the traffic. Post the site in the relevant and high pr directory. It is more effective and helpful.

 

I've seen evidence of sites entered in my directories gaining better PR and SERPS. The aim is to only list your sites in trusted directories and to ensure you don't have to place a reciprocal links.

Directories Definitely gives benefit for the site. It also increase the number of back links for the site

 

where earlier people used to start off page optimization with directory submissions, now they are just stopping it, I've seen a lot of people starting their off-page work with other things and then prefer not to use directory submission, if they require some links from them then they outsource their directory submission work as data entry.

 

Directories may not drive traffic to your site but if you submit to the right directories say for example you run a real estate site, consider submitting in real estate specific directories rather than general directories.

Directories are certainly a launchpad for new websites.

Directories are very helpful for a sites and give good traffic from the Directories. But for ranking it's very long process because we can't say that when that page will be cached so do directory submission on good directories sites.
