I have a specific niche directory in mind that I don't believe exists. How profitable can a directory be? I guess if it couldn't eventually yield $100/month I think I will look for other ideas... Thanks for the help. Brad
it can be profitable if your directory will reach pr6 above.. you can sell featured listing for 50$ a yearly listing for each link.
You can make a lot of money from a profitable directory. But first you need to groom and promote it. Let it meet the quality and standard people look for and let it achieve a high PR. You will attract advertisers and webmasters who need backlinks. I have seen directories charge substantial amounts for inclusions and rapid review of submissions.
It is becoming a highly competitive field, so if you can find a way to popularize it, it's definitely possible.
Almost any site can be profitable if you have a very good pr or a very high visitor count. Because it is google and your visitors, who decide how much you should be earning each month .
due to high cometition and spamming of directories, i would personally advise against starting a directory unless it REALLY was unique, and you had the proper infrastructure to cope with spam, site visitors and adspace etc. PM if interested for a directory script.
I would say a directory is not very profitable i mean have you ever found yourself using a directory to search. The only time i use directorys is to submit links and i never do anything else but submit links.
