Are directories even relevant still?

I mean, except for the big boys, such as Yahoo and DMOZ, are directories even relevant anymore?

I have never really tried to wedge any of my sites into a large number of directories, but I know I am in some of the big ones - yet, I don't think I've even gotten any significant traffic or PR boost from them.

(That doesn't pertain to the Yahoo or Dmoz of course)

yeah it is ... i mean look at aviva or alive even forplex and some other big ones...

they are considered as one of the strongest backlinks you get ... u kno all the links u get ... such as ur detail page !! ... u r just buying a page on a domain with a link ... so it is still good

    or atleast i think

you might have listed your sites with low pr dir's, try with high pr directories.
also directory listing alone cant get you pr, you need to have more relivant links to your site and links from direct high pr pages.

As long as the directory links you get are pr5 or above you will see some significant SEO benefits.

Could you please let us know the number of indexed pages of your sites and the SERPs positions as well?

Yesterday, I was trying to make one member understand a world where there are only 4 directories --DMOZ, BOTW, dir.yahoo.com, business.com.

How much do you need to get listed into 3 of them which are paid? How long it needs to get listed on DMOZ?

Where do you get other required backlinks for a respectable SERPs position? I always maintain that --no matter which directory ( Yes even DMOZ/Yahoo included) --they will not be able to give you a good number of traffic. But try some premiere directories and they will ROCK your SERPs and traffic by putting your site on top of SEs.

Many webmasters understand the role of Directories.

while one should not really expect traffic from any directories, PR and a position in the G SERP could be significantly affected by a simple submission to those directories that are well recognized.

Some DP members have been promoting their directories heavily, ranked high, and gained PR6 +. Those directories can help your site ranking big time. ;)

Directories is still relevant to our site and most of the seo submit link to directories as to get more backlinks and to get indexed in the search engine. But before submitting link I check the link if it is relevant to our site, the page rank, traffic, keyword positioning and the link is quality.
