Are directories dead?

I would say even if you dont have any unique ideas yet, still go ahead and create a web directory, a general one too, it doesn't have to be a niche one.

Whats more important is if you know that you can hold onto it over the years, and really thats not very hard to do, as some die, yours will age, aged websites are good, so dont panick if you dont have a fantastic idea yet, just get established, its not a race.

Theres no worry of saturation, as for example today and yesterday ive been working through a list in an excel file (list of directories) to promote a new site, and lots of the directories in that list are parked pages or something else.

One dies another is born, so theres no worry of saturation, even though i know il get told there is saturation, lol, what some call saturation i just call a lively and busy market.

The reason some complain of saturation is because it can keep prices down and forces people to compete (price wise) a while ago i was in a thread where a guy who designed in general was unhappy because theres "all these cheap ones" undercutting him.

He basically wasn't happy that he couldn't charge high because there are people doing $5 design jobs, and i say good luck to them, im all for access to everyone and everyone deserves an opportunity.

So are directories dead? well one dies daily, and more are born daily, but as a whole are they dead? well its a silly question because if they were you would know about it wouldn't you.

Being really specific, you wouldn't actually be one in a million, you would be one in tens of thousands, but thats directories worldwide, including the non english language ones.

Your not late to the party, its never too late, you would think it was like that with the mythical tales that go around, its like lord of the rings sometimes, lol

But really there is so much exageration around directories.

You will find plenty of arguments around them, so clearly their not dead because people seem to love talking about them.

Id say, setup yourself one and take it slowly, no race, no rush, it wont cost you much at all to setup, nothing better than finding out for yourself right?

 

I hadn't heard of this, what exactly is google doing to directories?

 

I think directories are not dead and will never been died.

Because nowadays i started to earn much better than previous days.
