Hello webmasters I want to purchase some links through directories, but I am having one doubt somebody giving the links of directories. Are directories are useful for link development?
There are a lot of DP members who run directories so you will probably get a lot of replies telling you that directory listings are great and worthwhile. If you choose carefully it mght be beneficial for you to get a few directory listings. In my experience directory listings have helped with PR but have done near 0 for traffic. With the changes going on in Google these days Im not sure if directory listings would even be good for PR. Just my opinions
Most directory listings are very good for link development on the PR Side, unless you have to provide a link back. You can find thousands of these free on the web, look around.
They can be good or bad. Well known and paid ones can be good. The paid ones that have reviews prior to listing get some good weight. Free ones can be considered link farms if their is no evidence of editorial review.
I am lucky if I get any hits from the directories that my blogs are listed in. However, they are good for link building.
During the past 2 1/2 years or so I have submitted numerous websites to many different directories. I did see some traffic from the directories to my directory sites but have seen zero to any other sites. There are sites that I have submitted to hundreds of directories that got no traffic back. In my opinion if you have a directory, websites or articles, you will get some traffic from the directories. If you have a general interest site you will probably never see any traffic from directories. HOWEVER, I do feel like I got a benefit from all the above in PR, backlinks, etc.
It does send traffic also give you a vital backlink. The more backlinks you have the better chance to getting high ranking in SERPs. Here is a good list to start with.
Yes, directory links are good, IF you can get listed. My experience is that it takes forever to get listed, IF they list you at all. And, it seems to be getting more difficult everyday.
Dont judge a directory based upon whether it is free or paid. Judge it by the quality of links you see in their listings and how well the directory is organized.
Here are just a few things to judge by Look through their listings. Actually check out some of the sites they ahve there. Are they crap or are they good useful sites? Is everything well categorized? -- Good Do they have excessive footer links and sitewides? -- Not good Check to see if their pages are indexed by Google search site:url
Sadly, I don't get much traffic from directories. Every now and then from the Yahoo Directory, but otherwise a big fat zero. With Google's attack on paid links, including many of the paid directories, I feel that the directory days are numbered, in terms of their value. As Google lessens the value of the backlinks from directories (or even penalizes possibly), it really hurts the directory owners and becomes a disincentive for webmasters to bother listing with them. I'm glad I didn't pay for "the review" for Alive or Aviva directories, now that they've taken a Google hit. <sigh>
Dont feel alone on that. I dont think much of anyone gets any actual traffic from a directory - unless you have a directory you will get a little traffic. Next time you find one of those directories that has the stats to show you how many times a url has been clicked check it out. I have many times. Mostly all you see are 0's and a few 1's There are just too many directories out there and most are duplicates for the most part. I have spent quite a bit (at least for my budget) during the past 2 or 3 years on directory links as well as a ton of time on free directories. I doubt I ever got more than 10 visits to any of my sites except for some directories (you will get traffic to those - or at least you used to)
You are welcome. Believe it or not I actually own a directory! But Im not here to promote that. Even though I own one I will still tell the truth as I see it.
