Are blogs better than regular websites?

I'm considering moving my blog to regular html web pages. Can someone explain if having a regular website is better than blogs? I've heard that google visits the blogs more often than regular pages. If so, how long does it take for the pages from a website to be indexed in google?

    Thanks!

    a couple of thoughts...

    1) maintenance - it is far easier to add/edit/delete content using a CMS like WordPress. There is still room for some custom coding, but by far WP is a better solution for static pages IMO. I'm thinking of offering the occasional client to use WP as their main site CMS.

    2) Indexing - that's a big question. You need to promote and get links back to your site for the survival of your site. Yes, you still need to do the standard SEO stuff, but that's more of good web practice than ranking the way G has been treating sites lately. Yes, G likes blogs only if content is provided on a consistent basis.
