Are blog comments good for backlinks?

I have heard that they are mostly nofollow links. Is blog commenting still a good way to get backlinks?

According to one influential SEM there's no such thing as a worthless link. If anything good commenting will get you credibility. It takes sustained effort and actual contribution. However, if you're just looking at "drive by linkbuilding" I'd suggest you drive on by this particular method :)

I think it doesn't have a direct impact on your SERPS, but it does help indirectly.

If you have a site with 100 links, all 100 are from the same domain, or from 2-3 domains, then I think getting another 15-20 backlinks from blogs, even if PR0 and nofollow, it still creates some diversity.

Or let me rephrase it: i'll better have 100 nofollow blog backlinks instead of 0 normal backlinks ;)

quality backlinks for me are those came from a related relevant blog/site,.
no follow doesn't pass on link juice so I don't think you can gain backlinks on a no follow blog

Some people specifically comment on do follow blogs.

No follow commenting can help you in a variety of ways. Firstly, it is direct traffic from those who see your url. There is a good chance that some people might come to your site, like something on it and link to it from their site. You will need to have a good site for that of course.

You can go ahead and comment on my blog..I have "dofollow" enabled with no time limit. I still moderate the comments to deter the spam monkeys that flutter about.

For me blog commenting is very effective to get backlinks in google even blogs uses nofollow. Because google tend to follow links even it's nofollow it just don't pass PR juice.

The answer to the question is - both-- NO & YES.:p

NO-- because they do not offer any ranking value as they are no-followed.

Yes- because if someone is an active member of some popular blogs in their own niche and keeps on participating on threads -- other visitors are more likely to visit because they too have similar interest.:)

Blog commenting with the dofollow is still good for SEO. To get backlinks from them quickly, you can hire an expert to submit your site to them through this forum.

    You bet they are!

Blog commenting is a great way to builld 100% relative backlinks, but dont do more then 5-10 per day imo. They are easy for the search engines to catch, but its easy to do 10 or so per day and if you do it every day thats 3500 strong backlinks for your site in one year.

    Way Worth It!

From blog commenting I have moved from page #13 to page #3 on the term SEO Blog

IMO, its less about the immediate backlinks you get, and more about the relationships you create with persons. Making friends is the best way for LONG term benefits.

Don't be too spammy and load up your comment name with anchor text. Just be yourself, and make a buddy. :)

you can help the blog link along by offering some unique content to the discussion you are commenting in. This will help push that blog link higher in SERPs itself which can in turn help the PR of that site, which can then bleed into yours. Adding content to your comment also increases the CTR of the link, as if people like what you said there, they are more inclined to see what else you have to share.

If you always put the community you are posting in FIRST, then every one wins!

So long as you are actually contributing to the blog you are trying to get a link too, every comment will help.

I say actually contributing because if you are just trying to push a link, most worth while blogs will simply delete your post.

But yeah, in the end, the more the merrier!

It's a good source of backlinks if the site is not using no follow attribute.

You bet, commenting over and above 10 times is fine, I simply set a limit on myself as to avoid any suspicion at all!
