One of my friends has recently launched a website on wildlife photography and den turned to me asking how to go about increasing the site's PR.....

I just suggested a few points like article submissions, directory submissions, social bookmarking etc.....

He has put me in a dilemma....he asked me if automated submissions would enhance his PR or do would adversely effect the site????? Trust me I am confused..... Help me out....

the most dangerous thing is that you don't know where your site has been listed on...

You'll just look like a spammer, nothing more. Most directories will reject the submission even if it's successful.

Why take a shortcut when you can do it right by spending a little more time (or money).

With automated submissions, you will miss out on a lot of quality directories that ensure automated submissions don't work on them. Secondly, if it's detected that you are using automated software for submissions, that gives bad name to your website.

Just suck it up and do it manually. I know it stinks, but better safe than sorry.

Semi Automated is the best alternative to save time and still control where you submit to.

Automated directory submissions won't hurt your PR.
Otherwise we will be able to hurt our competitors easily by just submitting their sites ;)

I agree with zexy, however the main consideration for google is they want to see natural link building. So if you are automating the process only submit no more than 20 a day i would say.

there is no "limit" per day. If you've got a new site and you're getting a bunch of junky directory links, you should make sure you've got some higher quality links beforehand. As a general rule... get your best links first if you're about to go get lots more soon. Lots of people believe in some sort of junk/quality link ratio.

obviously automated submission is very harmful for any sites.
because every automated tool doesn't goes to the proper category in which your site must be. or it may be submit your site in same directory twice with the same key words and automated submission approval ratio is also less number. it will tack your site in spam collection as well. so be ethical go with ethics it's will tack some time but gives you perfect back links as well.

Auto submissions will not harm your pr. If a directory approve your site, then it's a true backlink. How can google know you are submitting to a directory manually or automatically?

Going by your sig / user name you would want to say that. I recent report i viewed showed anything auto = no and recripricol is close behind of which you also have.

how would they know 1000 directories all the same details, all the same time frame for a starter I'd say. but then again may be wrong.

I dont think so its harmful to PR if accepted by the directories but the directories may reject your submission
