Hello all, I have a question in regards to a site that I am currently working on. I am planning to use several APIs for the site, many of which are from aggregators of all sorts. After going through some extensive TOS, it seems to me like most of the aggregators out there are actually "illegal", and as such, before I spend hours developing based on those APIs, I would like to see if anyone can shed some light on this. Here is what I mean: Review sites, such as Yelp or Citisearch specifically state the 2 following points in one way or another (these are taken from Yelp TOS): 1) "Don't just recreate the functionality of Yelp's own website or mobile apps. If you're thinking about using our API to build a site where people review great local businesses, there's a rad site for that already!" 2) "Don't aggregate our star ratings and review counts with other providers." However, when we look at Google Places for example, we see that both of those are neglected since they are aggregating the review counts (at the very least). Now, I do know that Google Places no longer uses Yelp, so it makes me wonder whether it's a means to an end and that at some point, all of the review sites will enforce such terms. Another example is deal aggregators. We take 8coupons and Yipit for example, which both include deals from Groupon. They both "violate" (as far as I can tell) the following: 1) "Wherever you display our content, you must prominently display our logo (see below). It should be obvious that the information originates from Groupon." - neither of them display the Groupon logo. 2) "You agree that you will not, and will not assist or enable others to use the API to aggregate, consolidate or otherwise arrange, display or make available Groupon Content in combination with any third party or any Groupon competitors’ content" Am I reading something wrong or are all those aggregators subject to a lawsuit? Are we in any way "in danger" by using the API of an aggregator for our applications? Let me know what you think! Thank you!
