Are ads displayed dependent on keyword used in search?

I know ads displayed are controled by content of the page, but does the
keyword used when searching effect what ads are displayed too?

Not sure, but as I notice I think this is more than possible.

yes when you enter a word in google search you get the ads for that keyword, if they are available! otherwise it won't display any ads at all!

if I understand your question, unlike totalmasala, I'd say I don't think adsense targets the ads on your page according to the search terms you've used in google to find your page. At least I've never read anything about that.

From the tests I have been running since my OP I would disagree with you.

If I go straight to one of my pages the ads are not very relevant, even after
refreshing 5 or 6 times and going through various other pages too.

But if I go to the same page via a google search for the keyword, the ads
displayed are a lot more rellevant.

I have never seen any evidence to support this

You are indeed totally right and your exemple demonstrated it to me. I'm in france and saw two different kind of results.
With the search it's about wind turbines, energy trading seminar, and other things approaching your topic, without the search it's about finding hotels in various city names mentionned on your page.

which scenario pays more, no idea, one could specualte it would be without search, but we don't know, you could know by doing in php a test on the referrer and if it's google then have a specific adsense channel number in your adsense block code, and another channel number if the referrer is not from google search. And look at the average earning per click as well as the CTR because what matters at the end of the day is the total earnings in your pocket.

    Thanks,
It makes you realise the importance of getting your landing page set up right.
If differents ads are shown when people go via your navigation links than
going to your page straight from Google, you have to be sure your landing
    page is set up accordingly.
