I know a lot of websites have been using this one column approach on the right side. Although, do you think that's because of blogging software like wordpress being by default 1 column on right??? [content][_] I know some websites use two columns on the right too... [content][_][_] However, is 2 column standard pattern obsolete? Does anyone use this style anymore? Does anyone think it's out of fashion or not web 2.0 enough?? [_][content][_] Ideas??
I do not believe it is obsolete, but that it depends on the amount of content you have to put in the sidebar(s). It also depends on how wide you want the content area. With three columns, you must be aware your users average screen size as compared to the look of a squeezed content area. On some of my websites (non-blog), I use a 2-column method [content][] or [][content], and on others (1 blog) I use a 3-column method, [][content][]. On the 3-column column websites, I have a lot more sidebar worthy content than on the 2-column. On a side note, I dislike the [content][][] method and barely pay attention to the sidebars of websites that use this method. It looks too congested and seems to have too much content in a small area.
Web 2.0 is more about user interaction and website dynamics rather than layout view. Plenty of Web 2.0 websites use two column layouts, including Youtube and Twitter.
Certainly no, many websites use one-column layout and it works well, too. Number of columns and their placement depends on a type of a website your design intentions.
Really depends on the content that you will be displaying. Also 2 column would be useful if you had 1 column then the content then another column, in which one column contained adsense or something
Btw, I am not sure if I am saying it right, but I was really asking about 3 column layout, ONE on LEFT, ONE on RIGHT, one in the middle (I'm not sure you guys understood me correctly) --- it seems like everyone does ONE column on right instead.
Lots if wordpress blog use the 2-columns on the right, it's become a popular feature in WordPress themes. I'm not really a fan of that layout as I prefer one column on the left and one on the right but it's not so popular.
Even you want one column layout, you better know 3 column design. Some sites look like one column (content), the sides columns only contain static background images. In fact, they are 3 column layout in terms of HTML structure.
