Archiving onto HDD vs DVD? Is my math right?

I'm re-re-archiving some old CDRs and DATs, and automatically went to burn them onto DVD... but then realized that it would be cheaper to just buy some HDDs. Wouldn't it?

    1TB of HDD = $59
    1TB of DVDs = $125 (5 x 50 DVD spindles @ $25, burnt to fill 4GB each)

Archiving to HDD is now half the price of burning DVDs?

Yes! This started to be true last year and prices have only gone down. Thing is that who needs all the space? I sold myself on spending some money to replace my slow old HDD and at this point I'm looking for faster access more than anything.

Hoping to get some answers on here quick so I can buy something soon. ;)
